Course Duration
The course is 60 guided learning hours and includes self study and 5 days training and assessment at the Wilkinson Welding Academy.
Self Study Booklet
Trainees will receive a self study booklet that can be kept as a useful resource about the welding process.
What is this qualification?
The qualification was developed to fill an identified gap in the market for an introductory level welding qualification.
The level 1 VRQ is designed to have a 'hands on' practical approach to introductory welding training and as such to
support approved retention and attainment at Level 1.
The qualification has been developed in close consultation with colleges, training associations and industry to ensure that the qualification meets the needs of the engineering and education sectors.
Who is this qualification for?
People that wish to enter further education but do not have the necessary GCSE grades
People that want to enter a career in welding engineering
Those thinking about welding as a career but who would like some experience of the job role first
People new to welding
People who work in another aspect of welding engineering and require some practical training
Assessment
The assessment for this qualification will include 5 practical tasks and a knowledge test.
All tasks will not exceed 45 minutes.
Produce beads on plate in the PA flat position
Product a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
Produce a tee filler weld in the PA flat position
Produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
Produce a corner weld in the PA flat position
A theory test covering the Process and Health & Safety requirements for MMA welding
